Spanish born Sergio Alapont is noted for his passionate and inspirational conducting. His studies took him to Valencia, Madrid and Munich before continuing his training at the Conservatoire of Music in Pescara with Donato Renzetti. He also studied with Jorma Panula, Helmuth Rilling, Masaaki Suzuki, Marco Armiliato, Semyon Bychkov and Antonio Pappano. In 2016 Alapont won the ‘Best Conductor Award’ at the GBOSCAR (Excellence in Opera and Dance) ceremony for his conducting of Aida at the Teatro Comunale di Sassari.
Alapont divides his conducting evenly between symphonic and operatic. He has guest conducted around the world with orchestra’s including Orquestra Sinfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, Bilbao Symphony, Copenhagen Philharmonic, Orchestra of the Scottish Opera, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Orquesta de València, Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, the National Philharmonic of Ukraine , Bach Collegium Stuttgart, Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes, Orchestra della Toscana , Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali , Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Orchester national d'Ile-de-France.
In addition to his orchestral conducting Alapont enjoys a successful career in the opera house. Recent highlights include The Merry Widow at the Fondazione Arena di Verona, a new production of Idomeneo at the Opera du Rhin in Strasbourg, Cavalleria Rusticana at the Illica Festival, Norma in Ferrara and Treviso, Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Den Norske Opera in Oslo, Otello at the Teatro Calderon of Valladolid, Attila at the Teatro Massimo Bellini of Catania, Don Bucefalo at the Wexford Opera Festival, Il cappello di paglia di Firenze at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Wexford Opera Festival, Poliuto at the Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos of Lisbon, Gianni Schicchi, Cavalleria Rusticana, Pierrot Lunaire and La Traviataat the Orizzonti Festival, Una cosa rara at the Palau de Les Arts in Valencia and at the Teatro Calderón in Valladolid, He was assistant conductor in Poliuto at Glyndebourne Opera Festival and assisted Marco Armiliato in productions at the Metropolitan Opera in New York including Madame Butterfly, La Bohème and Sly.
Future highlights include debuts with Minnesota Opera, Oviedo Filarmonía, Janacek Philharmonic in Ostrava and Teatro Pergolesi di Jesi.
Alapont has conducted in prestigious Festivals including Shanghai Opera Week, Quincena Musical Donostiarra, Euro Arts – Leipzig, Carintischer Sommer, Mahler Festival – Dobbiaco, Ravello Festival, MITO Festival and Varna Summer International Music Festival.
He has collaborated with singers such as Celso Albelo, Désiree Rancatore, Ainhoa Arteta, Dimitra Theodossiou, Isabel Rey, Fabio Armiliato, Lorenzo Regazzo, Roberto de Candia, Bruno Praticò, Yolanda Auyanet, Ofelia Sala, Juan Jesús Rodríguez, Carlos Chausson, Jorge de León, Tomas Mohr, Plácido Domingo, María José Montiel, Juan Francisco Gatell, Erika Miklosa, Maximilian Schmitt, Judith Van Wanrojj or Juan Pons, and with soloists as Nemanja Radulovic, Pavel Berman, Boris Berman, Pablo Sainz Villegas, Sunao Goko, Anna Tifu, Detlef Roth, Paula Murrihy or Measha Bruggergosman.
